Exploring Program Evaluation: Evaluation Types

Types of Program Evaluations:

Needs Assessments – Tries to identify and document unmet needs, gaps in services, or problems in a community

Formative Evaluations – Tries to adjust and solve problems with new programs or interventions

Process Evaluations – Required for research and demonstration, useful for describing a program, monitoring it, and providing for quality assurance

Summative or Conclusive Evaluations - Provides an empirically based appraisal of results or final outcomes of the program

Cost-Effectiveness Evaluations – Designed to determine which intervention is the most useful at the least amount of cost.
