Available Services

The Mary S. Thelen Library at Divine Mercy University has many available services for your writing and academic needs.

Available services are as follows, but are subject to change:

Writing

  • APA Academic Writer
  • Tutor.com
  • Turnitin Originality (more information can be found on the next page)

Students at Divine Mercy University are required to submit papers using APA Style. The 7th edition of Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association is available for purchase. It is required to purchase the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual in order to become familiar with APA Style and the updated rules contained in the 7th edition.

APA Academic Writer

For papers, essays, or discussion posts, you will need to format the work with references adequately supplied using the 7th edition of the Publication Manual. Therefore, it is recommended that students use the APA Academic Writer tool to begin writing papers, essays, etc. APA Academic Writer has a rich text editor similar to Word. It would help if you started writing your paper in Academic Writer because the formatting is done for you using the Academic Writer tool. It is not recommended to begin your document in Word format and later copy it to Academic Writer because the formatting will not copy over correctly from Word to Academic Writer. Academic Writer allows users to import references from the PsycINFO Database directly into the reference list in your paper. You can save your document in Academic Writer and return to it later to continue writing. To do this, you must create an account for yourself in Academic Writer.

The following tutorial contains instructions on how to use Academic Writer.

APA Academic Writer Grammar Check

You can use APA Academic Writer's spelling and grammar check by clicking on the button with a checkmark and ABC. Ordinarily, it is already turned on.

To check the reading level, flow, transitions, etc., you can click "Check Your Writing" on the left side of the screen, and it will check your writing for these things.

Tutor.com

Tutor.com allows students to access tutors in the subjects of Writing and Statistics. Tutors are available 24 hours, seven days a week. There is an option for submitting a paper for review. When submitting a piece for review, a tutor will review your document and respond within 24 hours. Regardless of whether you choose the option to submit your paper for review or you choose the option to meet with a tutor, you will get a report describing the changes that you need to make and can use them to edit your paper.

It is recommended that you submit documents or connect with a tutor well in advance of the due date for your assignment. Tutors will be unable to address the technical aspects of psychology or counseling. The students must contact the instructor for the specific course to address technical content concerns.

To access Tutor.com, navigate to the bottom of the left navigation panel in Canvas in your classes.
