COUN 560: Social and Cultural Diversity

This is the libguide for the counseling course, COUN 560 (Social and Cultural Diversity).

During the course, you will need to complete a Cultural Immersion Project where you will need to engage and interact in a cultural experience outside which you identify.

One of the first steps is to find a cultural event, religious service, celebration, activist event, seminar, or workshop to attend. This page will help you with how to find an event or other opportunity to attend, as well as resources that can help you find an event, do preliminary research on the group including to communicate with members of the group, and ultimately help you write your paper.

Finding a Cultural Event: To find a cultural event, it is suggested to look online in your community or local areas to find lists of diversity or cultural events. Contacting an office of tourism or community group organizations could also provide information to identify a cultural event.

Finding a Religious Service or Celebration: To find a religious service or celebration, you can search online for religious organizations of interest and contact them. They will inform you as to what you should know and how you can obtain an informative experience.

Finding a Political or Activist Event: To find a political or activist event, contact the political or activist organization and ask about events in your community.

Interactive Seminar or Workshop Relevant to Your Group: Community centers or group organizations often hold seminars or workshops. To find a seminar or workshop, you can contact them to see what seminars or workshops they are offering or what they know about.

Finding some preliminary research on your group of interest is important to do for this project. The library has an abundance of resources that can help you with conducting this research, and the information here will help you to find it.
